Pranathi Prasad, IST Class of 2018
Undergraduate at Jacobs University (Bremen, Germany)

How long did you attend IST?
From grade 9-13. I went to UIS before that and it was such a big transition to start high school at IST.

What was your thesis title?
Vaccine Risk Communication and Risk Perception. I remember there being big protests in Piazza Unità against the new legislation and a lot of the usual arguments against vaccination were being brought up. So I really wanted to look at some of the biases in risk perception that came up in these arguments.

What was your IST House?
Kleos – I think 🙂

In what ways were you prepared for your future studies?
The most valuable part of my education at IST was writing the Thesis. As someone going into Biological Sciences research, being able to critically examine a publication is an extremely useful skill. Dr. Neubauer’s research design class taught me so much. Secondly, I’m realising now how useful It was to do all those presentations most of the classes. Pubic speaking is so important.

In Grade 5, you planned on being…?
A journalist – that plan changed quickly 🙂

What is your favorite memory from your years at IST?
There’s no specific memory, but I made a few of amazing friends at IST. A couple in my class and a few in the year below. Having them be in the audience at my graduation and then cheering them on the next year at theirs was great.
