Our School
Founded in 1964 through a visionary partnership between the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and the Italo-American Association, the International School of Trieste (IST) has spent over six decades at the forefront of global education. What began as a specialized initiative for the children of the international scientific community has evolved into a premier institution of over 350 students representing more than 35 nationalities. IST stands as a unique pillar in the Italian educational landscape, being the only international school to offer a curriculum and diploma fully recognized by Italian law while maintaining the highest international academic standards.
Our campus is situated in Trieste—a city world-renowned for its scientific research and multicultural heritage. This unique location allows our students to thrive in an environment where academic inquiry is not confined to the classroom. The school’s original building blends a protected Belle Arti architectural design with modern digital innovation, featuring a state-of-the-art gymnasium added in 2020, a specialized laboratory for hands-on scientific discovery, and dedicated libraries for both our Elementary and Upper School students.
Whether a child is beginning their journey in our Early Childhood immersion program, building a strong foundation in Elementary, navigating the collaborative “House” system of Middle School, or pursuing the rigors of Advanced Honors and AP courses in High School, they are part of a tradition of excellence. At IST, we do more than teach subjects; we mentor the next generation of compassionate, informed, and responsible global citizens.
