About Us

The International School of Trieste is a non-profit English language international school for students of many different backgrounds and all nationalities. It was founded in 1964 upon the initiative of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics and the Italian American Association. In 2005 the Trieste Area Science Park joined as an associate.

The International School of Trieste is the only international school in Italy to issue diplomas fully and legally recognized by the Italian law (art. 10, comma 3, della Legge 29 gennaio 1986, n. 26), specifically designed for the school.

The IST diploma allows students to go to a public or private school at any point. At the end of High School the diploma allows students to apply to any Italian or foreign university and take any competitive state exam in Italy.

The school is divided into four sections:

NURSERY:  for students aged 2-3;

EARLY CHILDHOOD: for students aged 3-6

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: for students aged 6-11;

MIDDLE SCHOOL: for students aged 11-14;

HIGH SCHOOL: for students aged 14-19.

All teachers are native speakers of the language in which they instruct and are recruited globally to insure students receive the highest quality international education. The Italian language is an integral part of the academic program for Elementary, Middle and High School students.

Our school enjoys beneficial partnerships with the world famous research centers in Trieste: CBM (Center for Biomolecular Medicine), ICGEB (International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology), SISSA (International School for Advanced Studies) and ICTP (International Centre for Theoretical Physics). In 2010 IST became a College Board Test Center for SATs and APs, which offers the opportunity for our students to take these exams on campus.

The International School of Trieste is accredited by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges (MSA) and is member of the following organizations: European Council of International Schools (ECIS), Council of International Schools (CIS), Association for the Advancement of International Education (AIEE), and the Mediterranean Association of International Schools (MAIS).
