Given the fact that I.S.T. is a full-time school and many students stay at school until 3:50 p.m. and may have up to an hour of travel time to get home, the school tries to carefully regulate the amount of work required to do at home. Students in the Elementary School who do not complete their assignments in school time may have to finish this work at home. Consequently good use of school time is encouraged. Work at home may also involve reading or long term reports or projects. Fifth graders taking the Italian State proficiency exam may be given preparatory homework assignments from time to time. At the Middle School level, students should expect to do an average of one hour of homework per day. This may increase slightly and periodically in Grade 8, especially for those taking the Italian Middle School State Proficiency exam. At the High School level, students should be expected to do an average of two hours of homework per day and this should include daily readings of novels, online research and communication with the other schoolmates and students from all over the world.
