The school provides its students, at each level, with an outstanding program of activities during the course of the school day and as a part of the extra-curricular program. School assemblies based on the various nationalities that make up the student body are organized throughout the entire year and involve complete student participation. In-school concerts given by members of the local orchestra, opera company, choral groups, jazz groups, etc. help to enrich the music program and give the students first-hand exposure to various kinds of music. School-wide costume parties celebrate Halloween and Carnival. Student concerts for parents are given in December and June and involve all age groups. The students actively participate in various local projects and competitions ranging from environmental issues, social and community problems and charitable activities.
School Field Trips
School trips are closely integrated with the school's academic program. The area offers a vast venue of excellent sites relating to history, art, science, culture and environmental studies. Students in the Lower Elementary School take 3 to 4 day field trips per year. Grades 4 & 5, in addition, take a 3-day Environmental Studies trip towards the end of the school year. Junior High School students go on a 4 to 5-day Italian Studies trip each fall to various destinations in Italy. They also can participate in various trips on the weekends to places of local interest. The school also organizes exchanges with other International Schools in Italy for students in Grades 5-8.
Extra Curricular Activities
The school organizes a number of extra curricular activities for the students. For sports, the school runs an after school soccer club and participates in local Junior High levels sports competitions. Close collaboration with the tennis club next door allows students to participate in tennis lessons when school ends. A yearly sports exchange is run with an International school in Rome. Other after school activities include yoga, drama and a school chorus that actively participates in the MAIS Honor’s Choir. An extra curricular Italian program is offered to improve competence in the local language.
Community Service Activities
The school has an active Community Service Program. Funds raised through weekly bake sales, raffles and a Winter Bazaar are used to support local charitable organizations plus a student sponsorship program based in Calcutta. IST is also proud to have helped support the construction of two schools in rural Indian villages.
PTA Sponsored Activities
The Parent Teacher Association organizes after-school music lessons for students interested in piano and guitar. The school's PTA also organizes a potluck dinner at the beginning, and a picnic at the end of the school year. It also helps with the Halloween and Carnival Parties and the frequent Junior High School Discos.
